All of the 27 million people living in Mozambique are at risk for at least one NTD. Support for NTD control and elimination in Mozambique is led by Mozambique’s Ministry of Health (MOH), through the National NTD Program and the National Ophthalmology Program.
ENVISION supports Mozambique’s MOH to implement district level treatment campaigns for trachoma and provides central level support for NTD program management of all NTDs endemic to the country. ENVISION’s support has been critical in assisting the MOH to scale-up treatment for trachoma, with a significant portion of the population no longer at risk, because of effective interventions.
In Mozambique, ENVISION has supported the Ministry of Health to
Map 86 districts, completing the baseline map for trachoma
Treat nearly 4 million people for trachoma in 38 districts, with 1.5 million people no longer needing treatment
Train 1,391 government officials and health workers on skills needed to effectively carry out mass treatment campaigns
Assess the impact of the trachoma program through 15 district-level surveys, with 1.4 million people found to be no longer at risk due to the effectiveness of SAFE interventions
|Strengthen Mozambique’s health system through the innovative use of district MDA kits, which allow for better monitoring and improved quantification of the NTD drug supply
