In September, ENVISION staff participated in the 6th Annual Meeting of the NTD NGDO Network (NNN) hosted by CBM in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The NNN is a global forum nongovernmental development organizations (NGDOs) working to control and eliminate NTDs. It is composed of more than 60 separate NGDOs, large and small worldwide and works in support of the World Health Organization and governments of endemic countries and supports the generation and dissemination of evidence-based practices to further progress towards control and elimination of NTDs.
During this year's meeting which was NTDs Post-MDGs and Pre-SDGs: Contributing to the Agenda, members of the NNN enthusiastically signed the Abu Dhabi Declaration demonstrating their full and unanimous support for a global indicator for NTDs for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Target 3.3, reflecting language endorsed by the World Health Organization and the NTD community: The number of people requiring interventions against NTDs.
ENVISION Project Director, Lisa Rotondo, who previously served as the group’s Vice-Chair, will serve as Chair for a two year period. RTI is a long-standing, active member of the Network, with Molly Brady also serving as Chair of its Lymphatic Filariasis NGDO Network. “I’m honored and privileged to lead a coalition that contributes in such meaningful ways to the global fight against neglected tropical diseases,” Rotondo said. “I am thankful for the support, enthusiasm, and trust of the Network’s members and look forward to building on its many important successes.”
In September 2016, RTI will be hosting and sponsoring the NNN’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. This will take place in conjunction with an event on Capitol Hill celebrating 10 years of U.S. government commitment to the elimination of NTDs.
