Over 12 million Guineans are at risk for at least one NTD. In 2004, Guinea’s Ministry of Health (MOH) launched a national NTD program with an ambitious plan to control or eliminate NTDs by 2020.

ENVISION is helping to reach this goal by supporting Guinea’s NTD Program to implement district-level treatment campaigns across 5 regions, providing treatment in communities and schools. ENVISION support has been critical in completing disease mapping for trachoma and expanding treatment to more people at risk in Guinea. Despite political instability and the Ebola outbreak, Guinea continues to make considerable progress toward NTD control and elimination.

In Guinea, ENVISION has supported the Ministry of Health to

Map 34 districts, completing the baseline map for trachoma

Treat more than 4 million people for at least one NTD across 25 districts

Train more than 11 million government officials, health workers, teachers, and community drug distributors on skills needed to effectively carry out mass treatment campaigns

Establish 4 sentinel sites, which will used to measure the impact of the LF program

Strengthen Guinea’s health system by engaging a network of community health workers and local leaders to rebuild confidence in health services post-Ebola
