Nigeria has the highest NTD burden in Africa, with an estimated 100 million people at risk for at least one NTD. In 2013, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) launched an ambitious plan to control or eliminate the seven most common NTDs by 2020.

ENVISION is helping the FMOH to reach this goal by supporting the national NTD program at the federal level in various aspects of NTD program management, including coordination, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and data management. ENVISION also provides assistance to Nigeria’s NTD program by supporting treatment campaigns across 10 states: Anambra, Abia, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Nassarawa, and Plateau.

IN NIGERIA, ENVISION has supported the Federal Ministry of Health to

Map 188 health districts - known as Local Government Areas (LGAs) – for schistosomiasis, soil transmitted helminthiasis, or trachoma, representing more than 24% of the country

Treat more than 24 million people for at least one NTD across 10 states

Train over 115,000 government officials, teachers, health workers, and community drug distributors on skills needed to effectively carry out mass treatment campaigns

Assess the impact of the trachoma program in 29 LGAs

Strengthen Nigeria’s health system by assisting the FMOH to implement an integrated NTD database, compiling data for all diseases into one centralized repository for better data management and use
