More than 49 million people are at risk for one or more NTD in mainland Tanzania. Led by the Ministry of Health Community Development Gender Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), Tanzania’s NTD Control Program aims to control or eliminate these NTDs by 2020.

ENVISION supports district-level NTD campaigns across 142 districts. Together with the MoHCDGEC and partners, ENVISION has supported the scale-up of mass treatment to reach all endemic districts in Tanzania. Recent surveys have shown considerable progress in reducing the burden of LF and trachoma, with more than 15 million people no longer at risk for LF and nearly 11 million people no longer at risk for trachoma.

IN TANZANIA, ENVISION has supported the Ministry of Health to

Map 92 health districts for LF and trachoma, representing nearly 83% of the country 

Treat more than 23 million people for at least one NTD across 142 districts 

Train more than 118,000 government officials, health workers, teachers, and community drug distributors on skills needed to effectively carry out mass treatment campaigns 

Assess the impact of the trachoma program through 68 district-level surveys, with more than 11 million people found to be no longer at risk for the disease 

Strengthen Tanzania’s health system by training district and regional pharmacists to manage NTD drugs
