Nearly 12.6 million people in the Americas are at risk for LF, and 90% of them live in Haiti. Haiti’s national NTD program, a joint effort between the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), Ministry of Education and partners, has embraced global goals for eliminating LF by 2020, and controlling STH, through treatment provided in communities and at schools.

ENVISION has bolstered the capacity of Haiti’s national NTD program to achieve these goals, assisting in the implementation of district-level treatment campaigns across 123 communes. Recent surveys have shown tremendous progress toward elimination, with an increasing number of people are no longer at risk for LF.

IN HAITI, ENVISION has supported the MOHP to

Scale up-treatment to all districts at risk for NTDs with support from the MOH and partners, enabling full geographic coverage

Treat more than 6 million people for at least one NTD across 123 communes

Train over 19,000 government officials, health workers, teachers, and community drug distributors on skills needed to effectively carry out mass treatment campaigns

Assess the impact of the LF program in 47 communes, with nearly 2 million no longer at risk because of effective treatment

Strengthen Haiti’s health system by building the capacity of lab technicians across 10 departments to conduct surveys and support surveillance
